The World’s Greatest Journey…

The journey towards knowing who God is the greatest journey on which we will ever embark. This month at Family Church we will look closely at what knowing God and His attributes are all about.

Who in your life knows you best? Who in your life knows the real you? Do you have friends that know you at different levels according to the closeness of your relationship? How well do your children, other family members, and your spouse know you? Do some people think they know you better than they actually do?

Lead Pastor, Beck Payne, told us Sunday that as long as we don’t know who God is, we will never know what true life is or who we can be; and, we will never know what God is like or understand what God expects.

Do you and I really know God?

God has told us so much about who He is through His Word. He is knowable, but God is also incomprehensible.

God is one and He eternally exists in three persons: the Father (John 6:27), Son (John 1:1-5; 14), and Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4).

Does it really matter if we know God or is it okay to just know about God?

We must:

  • Know who God is because it matters eternally.
  • Know God intellectually, but we most definitely must know God personally and intimately.
  • Tell who God is and proclaim Him boldly.
  • Show who God is in order to reflect His communicable attributes to a lost and dying world.

Romans 1:18-20

18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Our discussion question for the week came from earlier in this post –

Does it really matter if we know God or is it okay to just know about God?
